I have been looking further into what exactly is expected for the survey and analysis section of a good, thorough design.
Within conscious permaculture design, there are several anagrams or pathways that guide you through each stage.
One is known as SADIMET (Survey, Analysis, Design, Implement, Maintain, Evaluate, Tweak)
Another is OBREDIMET (Observe, Boundaries, Resources, Evaluate, Design, Implement, Maintain, Evaluate, Tweak)

There are other methods and ways but the theory is all basically the same, however you choose to name the parts, the beginning involves surveying and observing what is going on in the area you are working in. In other words, take a good look before you leap.
