Vision
Can Silo, our new home
My partner and I have a shared vision of what our home and land could become. We would like to turn this land project into a permaculture education centre, welcoming volunteers and visitors to experience applied permaculture design. This means we would like our home to be a good example of sustainable design. As visitors are likely to come who have little or no experience of permaculture design, I would like our way of living to inspire them that another way is not only possible, but comfortable and attractive. We would like the power system to be progressive, and to provide enough power to allow us to do all of the things that we would like to with our work, study and family lives. And we would basically like a comfortable home, one where we can do things by light after dark, and use our phones and computers to stay in touch with work, family and friends.
We have a small budget, (small meaning we'd like to spend as little money as is possible without spending so little that it falls apart), using all reclaimed materials wherever possible and bargain hunting for the rest. We also have a problem with thieves in the area where we live, so if anything installed outside looks a little shabby, that's probably a fine thing.
