VISION

I'd like to explore my relationship to money, and look at where my money flows. I'd then like to apply permaculture principles and ethics to whatever patterns I find to try and create a more balanced and healthy connection with my finances.

PATTERNS

Below I've drawn a map showing the flow of money in my life at the time this project began.
I feel that there have been many times over the past few years that I have felt really restricted in the choices I am able to make in my life as I've had really limited access to money when I have needed it. It's led to many feelings of instability, and has blocked my flow of ideas and plans I would like to be able to make. I think the problem not only lies with making more money, but in making sure the money I do have is put to the best possible use.
Making plans for an ethical company based on un-ethically borrowed money
I'm in the middle of setting up my dream company, (see project 4) ethical in all ways and for all involved. But for the starting costs, as I haven't planned any way of ethically finding this money, my old habits rear their head and I have been imagining to find the finance from loans from my standard bank and credit cards! NOT ethical in any way, NOT good for me or the business due to high costs of interest, NOT the right energy, and all a bit of a worry. I have been following my old and well established pattern of ignoring the financial aspect, no putting enough time or value on working it out. Just leaving it out of the planning until the end, so that the only option left open is borrowing from the bank. There is another way, and a better way, I'm sure of it.
This sounds like this potentially become a very beneficial goal of this project - to explore more ethical ways of financing my future ideas and projects.

REFLECTION

Looking at this now from a fresh perspective, it's clear to make the comparison with how the whole of the human race is treating the planet as a whole; living over our allowance and surviving on borrowed time. And I'm doing exactly the same thing on a smaller scale. How can I expect humanity to live sustainably if I can't achieve it in my own personal life?
I feel that there is a profound opportunity for growth here. If I can achieve financial sustainability, in progressive and ethical ways, that'll be such a turning point in my life. I will be then standing on solid ground when reaching out into the world promoting sustainability through permaculture design.
