Maintenence
As it turned out this was actually a very unsustainable way of working, although I knew it would be hard work and just for a short time I thought that would be ok. After just a few days I was so exhausted, such long hours in the cold, often working mostly by myself my days were really long. Most stalls around me had three people, one setting up and taking down, then two people to take it in shifts during the day. Its was just too much work for me alone, so I ended up hiring a friend for some evenings so I could take Ohli home with me, which I was unsure about as I didn't know how much I would be making, so if I could afford to pay them!
For the two weeks just before Christmas Oriol arrived to help, which changed everything! Having two people together doing this made everything so much more possible, and was much easier with Ohli. My mum also came down to stay with us for a couple of long weekends, and so she stayed at home with him. Amazing, being so close to family after all this time away, it really can be such an amazing support..
The weekend before Christmas I got very ill with a bad flu and lost my voice completely, but had to keep going as it was our last weekend. I sent Ohli off to stay with his granny for the weekend and went to work with Oriol. Thank goodness he was here, I managed to go take some rests during the day just to keep going.
There is no need for any long term maintenance plans here, as I hope and plan never to do this again!
I have made a presentation of some of the things that the stall involved and lessons I gained from it below.
